Calorie Shifting and Metabolism

Why most diets do not work

If you arrived to this website looking for information about diets in general, and calorie shifting in particular, then I assume that you already tried a few diets before, even starving diets. Let me guess, all those diets started great, you lost a few pounds the first few weeks, maybe you even lost a lot of excess weight. But how long can one keep a diet? Most of the diet plans out there are not designed in a way that allows any of us to follow them for a long time, and by long time I mean months and even years. So what happened next? You started gaining weight…all that weight that it took you so much effort to lose while on the diet. And maybe you ended up with even more fat (and less muscle mass) then ever.
Sounds familiar? I am sure it does, it happened many times for many of us. It happened to me too.

Understanding metabolism

So why do all those diets fail, you ask? Well, it’s all about the metabolism. If you are over-weight it simply means that your body gets more energy than it needs, so it stores the extra energy as fat for shortage times, when less food than usual is consumed. Well, this is good news for you because it means your body is doing a good work, right? Well, not really…you actually would love it if your body did not store that extra intake as fat. And even better, you probably want it to burn your fat instead of storing it. And why does the metabolism keep storing the fat even when you are on a diet, eating less than usual? The answer is that your metabolism learns the routine of your meals, and get used to what you eat – how many calories, what types of food, when they are consumed, how much workout you do and so on. Once it got used to the new eating routine, it becomes more and more efficient, and again your body find itself in a satiation where there is extra energy that can be stored. At this point you are no longer losing weight (this phase is called the “diet plateau”), and the breaking point will follow.

Calorie Shifting is the answer

So how can you avoid this pitfall? Use the calorie shifting method to trick your metabolism! If you constantly, day by day, shift the calories you consume, change the types of foods you eat, and do some workout, then your metabolism will never get used to the amount and type of energy is has. This means the metabolism will not get more efficient with time, and will not be able to store any fat, and as a result you will lose weight!

Calorie shifting plan

The problem is that it is not at all easy to count calories, know what type of foods to shift, and what eating schedule is the best. Should that stop you? Of course not! If you want to start losing fat by shifting calories, then all you need is a good reference guide and a calorie shifting menu generator. Weight loss and green tea

Green tea is healthy

Green tea has many health benefits, due to its many anti-oxidants ingredients. Drinking green tea on a regular basis can lower the risk of the four most major health problems of modern life: cancer, stroke, heart failure and diabetes. It can even lower your cholesterol! In addition, green tea even helps protect the skin from UV radiation and tumor formation.

Green tea and weight loss

The most important fact for us is that green tea has a positive effect on weight loss. That’s right, drinking a glass of green tea every day will help you burn fat, and this is especially true if you drink green tea after exercise.
In a study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found that green tea extract increases metabolism and has a significant effect on fat loss.

How can I loss weight with green tea?

First, select a good brand of organic green tea at your local health store or natural grocery (try to avoid powder or pill forms of the tea). Start by drinking a cup of green tea every day.

To increase the effects of green tea for weight loss, brew a double amount of the tea instead of one and let it brew past its regular allotted time.

Do not add anything to your tea, and this includes honey, sugar or milk. Those additives will actually negate the weight loss effects of green tea. For the best weight loss results, always drink your green tea plain

Green tea has caffeine in it, so you should make the effort and switch your regular coffee drinks with green tea, which is a lot healthier.
However, if you are not after the energy boost that you can get from the caffeine in the tea, you can drink decaffeinated green tea instead. This is also a good solution for drinking green tea at night, because the caffeine may keep you awake for too long.

Putting It All Together

Going right now to the local supermarket and buying green tea will not have much effect on your weight loss without the proper diet plan and exercise routine. If you truly want to lose weight the healthy and easy way, take the next step and learn how calorie shifting will speed up your weight loss and fat burning.

Shifting Calories Effectively

Many people are following some sort of calorie shifting diet program. This is a great opportunity to give a few tips and advices that will improve the effectiveness of the diet plan for those who are happily shifting their calories and losing weight.

Drink Water

First thing first, and this is a good advice even for those of you who do not go on a diet -drink a lot of water. This tip is vital during a diet plan! Water is very important for our metabolism, and drinking a lot of water keeps the body working efficiently and in a healthy manner, which is exactly what you want your body to do.

Detoxification

Now, when on a Calorie Shifting diet program, you are allowed to drink almost any drink, including drinks like coffee, tea, diet soda and so on. I strongly recommend drinking green tea and lemon juice because they are a great detoxification agent and will probably help you to reduce weight and stay healthy.

Give the digestive system a rest

A general note about the calorie shifting meals - it is important to have at least two to three hours gap between meals. This way you make sure your digestive system works properly, and it has intervals of times during daytime when it can rest. Trust me on this one, you will feel a lot better if your digestive system does not work full speed all day long.

Exercise to burn fat

I can not talk about weight loss without mentioning exercise. I advise to do some sort of aerobic exercise for about half an hour a day, 3 to 4 times a week. It can be as easy as walking, as long as you do it fast enough. And why is it important to do aerobic exercise while on a diet? It will help you burn calories as well as improve your metabolic rate.

I wish you all the success with your weight loss plan.

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is a relatively new diet method. It is just as its name implies: a period of fasting alternated with a period of eating.
It is based on researches that show that doing intermittent fasting can help you lose weight as well as make you healthier. The idea behind it is to follow this cycle: you don’t eat for a short period of time (12-24 hours), than you can eat as much as you want for the next 12-24 hours.
This is definitely a very different approach when it comes to dieting, and the good news is that it brings great results in terms of weight loss while keeping you healthy.

Intermittent fasting is good for weight loss
And why is that? Simply because intermittent fasting, much like calorie shifting keeps your metabolism working. You do not go into a starvation mode, because it normally starts only about 2 to 3 days after the calorie restrictions began.

Intermittent fasting is healthy
According to researches and studies (intermittent fasting study) eating less and more than needed on alternate days will make you heartier! Moreover, there have been a few human studies on intermittent fasting, and all have shown an improvement in every parameter tested.

Want a simple explanation why this method is probably the way our body is used to?

Think about how cavemen would have eaten food. Would they have eaten three or four meals a day? Of course not, cavemen would have eaten whatever they were able to hunt, meaning they probably alternate between feast and fast periods. This is intermittent fasting in a nutshell.

Starving diets do not work!

Starving diets do not work because they slow down the metabolism and put the body into a starvation mode, making it impossible to lose weight in a healthy way.

If you ever tried a starving diet, you probably lost some pounds quickly at first, but as time went by it became much harder to lose the extra weight. Finally you got to a point that you were actually starving yourself and still not losing weight at all.

As far as counting calories is concerned, it may look like you are going on a diet that will bring you the results you want, but it does not.

The reaction to starving diet
A starving diet makes you hungry, tired and miserable. The normal reaction to this is to stop the starving diet, meaning going back to the regular eating schedule…but now you have a new problem because when you stop the starving diet, your metabolism is still stuck in a low calorie burning mode and by the time it catches up, you have gained all the weight back and probably even few extra pounds. Sound filmier?

The reason for this is the fact that the less food you eat, your metabolism burns fewer calories and adjusts to a low calorie burning rate. When you go back to the regular eating routine, your metabolism will be stuck in the low rate it got used to when you were on a diet. The result of this low calorie burning mode will cause you to gain back weight very quickly.

Muscle loss
Loss of muscle mass is one of the serious complications of a starving diet. Muscle mass is a major part of the body that burns fat, but on a strict diet you are losing your fat as well as your muscle mass. When you eventually stop the diet, you put all the lost weight back on very fast, but end up with even more fat and less muscle to burn it with.

It is simply not healthy
Starvation diets start a very unhealthy life cycle, and you should not start with them in the first place.
Starving yourself may decrease your overall mass temporarily, but it will also affect your health and damage your kidneys, liver and the rest of your organs in ways that are not at all healthy. The more you starve yourself, the bigger these problems will become.

The Bottom line
With a starving diet you may lose some pounds, but a few weeks after you stop the diet (which will eventually happen because one can not starve for ever…) you will get back to your original weight BUT with more fat, less muscle and a slower metabolism than when you began. Now it will be harder than ever to lose any weight…don’t say you weren’t warned!
